Dr. Susan Leone was born in Cleveland, Ohio in November of 1949.
The following November, she was adopted by two beautiful Italian-American people, Charlie and
Mary Testa of Campbell, Ohio. There Susan enjoyed a wonderful childhood in a small steel mill
community. Attending Campbell City Schools, she graduated from Campbell Memorial High School
in 1967 and came to Youngstown State University in the fall of 1967.
With a loving family always supportive, she decided to become an
elementary teacher. She received her Bachelors Degree in Education
at Youngstown State University in 1972, a Masters Degree in Education
with a reading specialty, also from YSU in 1989, and a Doctorate
in Curriculum and Instruction in 1994 from the University of Akron.
Her dissertation focused on written retellings.
In 2002, Susan received a principals certificate at Westminster
College. She has served as a Language Arts Instructional Consultant
at the Mahoning County Educational Service Center. Dr. Leone is
employed as a Part Time Faculty member in the Department of Teacher
Education.
