YSU Bulletin/Catalog:
A yearly publication that contains the rules, definitions and regulations
governing academic areas. You should have obtained and retained
a copy of the Bulletin/Catalog in force at the time you entered
Youngstown State University. This serves as the main defining factor
for your program requirements. You can view information contained in the current
YSU Catalog online, click here.

YSU Schedule Booklet:
Also called the Schedule of Classes, this publication comes out each term
and lists days, times, and locations for classes for a specific
semester. Important dates, e.g., adding-dropping classes; final
exam schedule, are also listed in the Schedule Booklet. You can
view a copy of the YSU Schedule of Classes online. To find out more
about online viewing, click here.
Catalog Number:
A four digit number used in the Catalog and Schedule Booklet representing
a course. At the entry level, there are many classes/sections offered for
each course each semester thus giving students enrollment flexibility
in time(s) of day and day(s) of week At the junior and senior levels,
most courses are limited to one class/section offering per term.
Some courses are offered only once an academic year; some courses
may be on a bi-annual rotation schedule; other courses are offered
only as needed. When in doubt about the offering frequency of a particular
course, check with the Academic Department offering the course.
Course Code:
A four digit number in the Schedule of Classes that represents
day, time, course title, catalog number and class meeting areas of
the courses offered for a particular semester. This is a unique
number each semester and is important during registration.
Prerequisites:
Symbolized by "P" in the schedule book indicating that a course
is required prior to taking this class. Always check the catalog
for prerequisites.
Add/Drop Procedure:
A process that allows a student to remove one class from the schedule
and add another. A student may drop or add classes within a scheduled
time period. (These time periods are given in the semester schedule).
This procedure is also needed if you wish to change from one section of a
class to another section of the same class. An advisor's signature is
required for students who are on warning or probation.
GPA (Grade Point Average):
The total quality points earned divided by hours attempted. Only those
hours taken at YSU are used in this calculation. Minimum Grade Point
Averages are required for program admission, entry into certain classes
and experiences, and graduation. Check your Catalog for these requirements.
CR/NC Option:
Students who have completed at least 30 semester hours of credit and
have a G.P.A. of 2.00 or better may elect to take a course credit/no credit (CR/NC)
provided the course is not in the major. This option may be elected for a
maximum of 12 semester hours for the baccalaureate degree. Courses
taken CR/NC do not count toward a student's G.P.A. Some courses are
designated as CR/NC for all students . . . student teaching is one such
example. These courses do not count as part of the 12 semester hour limit.
GPA Recalculation:
Students may repeat a course in which a "D" or "F" grade was earned and
request to have their G.P.A. officially recalculated, (see Bulletin for details).
