The Beeghly College of Education announces that the
2006 Annual Reading Conference will be held on the YSU
campus September 29-30, 2006 in Kilcawley Center. Speakers
already committed to being at this conference

Dr. Linda Gambrell Clemson University, Vice President of IRA
Linda Gambrell's current interests are in the
areas of reading comprehension strategy instruction, literacy motivation,
and the role of discussion in teaching and learning. She is a professor
and director of the School of Education at Clemson University, Clemson,
South Carolina, USA. Previously she was associate dean for research
in the College of Education at the University of Maryland, where
she taught graduate and undergraduate reading and language courses.
She began her career as an elementary classroom teacher and reading
specialist in Prince George's County, Maryland. She has coauthored
books on reading instruction and written numerous journal articles.
Dr. Tim Rasinski Kent State University
Timothy Rasinski is a professor of education in the
Department of Teaching, Leadership, and Curriculum Studies. Dr. Rasinski
teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in literacy education. His major
interests include working with children who find reading difficult, phonics
and reading fluency instruction, and teacher development in literacy
education. He has published over 100 articles and 10 books on various aspects of reading education.
Debra Frasier
Author - Miss Alaineus
Even when she was young, Debra Frasier loved
to create all kinds of artworks. She graduated with a degree in
design from Florida State University and later attended Penland
School of Crafts in North Carolina. At Penland, she created costume
puppets, the largest of which was sixty feet long. Debra also created
wind sculptures for various cities around America. Her first book,
On the Day You Were Born, is a perennial bestseller, considered
a modern-day classic. The latest book she wrote and illustrated,
Miss Alaineus: A Vocabulary Disaster garnered a great
deal of attention for its design, inventive story, and word play.
Debra's current work is about the class in Miss Alaineus - this
one about a play based on their science project. The title is The
Incredible Water Show.
Dr. Jean Feldman Nationally Known Consultant, Author & Musician
Dr. Jean Feldman has been actively involved in
education for over 30 years as a classroom teacher, instructor of
adults, author and consultant. Dr. Feldman has a B.A. from the University
of Georgia, a D.A.S.T. from Emory University, and a M.A. and Ph.D.
from Georgia State University. She has written and recorded ten
children's recordings. Dr. Jean Sings Silly Songs, Dr. Jean And
Friends, Keep On Singing And Dancing, Sing To Learn, Is Everybody
Happy?, Nursery Rhymes & Good Ol' Times, Ole! Ole! Ole!, Kiss Your
Brain, All Day Long, and Just For Fun. In addition to
her work in music, she has authored the following teacher resource
books: Transition Time, Transition Tips And Tricks For Teachers,
Rainy Day Activities. She has also authored a group of Teaching
Tunes Audio & Mini-Books Sets which include Basic Concepts, Early
Phonics, Nursery Rhymes and Favorite Songs. She recently released
these Best of Dr. Jean titles through Scholastic: Hands-On Art,
Science & Math, Reading & Writing and Puppets & Storytime.
Steven Kellogg Author / Illustrator
Steven Kellogg has loved picture books ever since
he was a child; the illustrations of Beatrix Potter and N.C. Wyeth
were his early favorites. He grew up in Connecticut drawing constantly
and telling stories to his younger sisters. Now he has written and/or
illustrated nearly ninety books for children and young people. The
most recent book he has illustrated is Jimmy's Boa and the Bungee
Jump Slam Dunk (Dial, 2003) written by Trinka Hakes Noble.
